More About the Project

The owner of this project, Salt Development, is proposing to build a multi-story apartment complex inside of Deer Canyon (in the valley and on the hillside between S. Eucalyptus Drive and Festival Drive) on Santa Ana Canyon Road. The builder will need to obtain rezoning approval from the City of Anaheim in order to proceed as Deer Canyon is not zoned for apartment buildings.

The community believes this project will substantially increase traffic on Santa Ana Canyon Road and dramatically increase the risk of wildfires in the area. Further, the additional cars will create a new hazard in the event of an evacuation as more than 1,000 additional vehicles attempt to exit the area. This project will also drive away the diverse wildlife in our community and permanently change the character of neighborhoods surrounding the project site.

The building would be several stories tall, and if built, would be the tallest building in all of Anaheim Hills and obstruct the natural beauty of the preserve. The building would have exterior lighting, like a shopping mall parking lot, that would be on 24 hours a day. To build the structure, the developer would cut into the side of the mountain in Deer Canyon.

Key Concerns

  • Disrupt and displace wildlife

  • Increased fire risk and evacuation concerns in a high risk fire zone

  • Change the natural beauty and character of the community with a 24-hour shopping mall style lighting

  • Create greater traffic and gridlock on an already congested street

  • Overcrowding of schools
